Happy Pepero Day!

In Korea, there is a snack called Pepero. I've had it back in the states, but love for these little things in the states is nothing compared to Korea. Here, they have Pepero Day. On November 11th, the country celebrates by giving gift baskets or just small boxes to friends and family. Why the 11th of November, you ask? Well......11/11. The Pepero snacks are stick cookies dipped in chocolate, and when you line then up, it looks like the date November 11. So weird, I know. I was rolling my eyes when I found out. But the kids love it. A lot of students brought in peperos for their classmates and teachers. I got a small box of almond pepero from Linsey. It was another interesting thing I found out about Korea.

Family Day at Worwick

This year, the school decided to try something new for the families at Worwick Franklin Institute. They are all about pleasing the mommies at hagwons (private English schools in Korea), and they will stop at nothing until the mommies are pleased. It's not about the dads...it's alllll Momma. So this year, to make the moms happy, and to invite more family-friendly events, the school put together Family Day. It was a day where the students, teachers, and families could come together and play games in a few rounds of friendly competition. It was a pretty fun day, I'll admit, despite a few headaches (ie fires, unfair team distribution, time issues; all to be expected from my school....even the fire wasn't much of a shocker, sadly). The kids had a great time, as you can see from the photos below. I have included Cygnus class, the elusive group that Kyle Teacher hasn't blogged about yet.

The flag ceremony, right beofre the "WORWICK Olympic Torch" set the gym floor on fire.
Off to the races.

L-R: Sarah, Candy, Ashley
Kyle's student, Alice, in a race with her family.
Ashley and Candy with their parents.

Some strange game where Candy's parents made the final 3.

Dads getting serious. That's my student's dad, by the way.

Stealing the hats off kids heads has never looked more fun. Kyle participated in this with one of his students. He didn't realize that people were chasing him, as he was chasing others for about 10 seconds, which made for some entertainment.

My friend Angie's student, Andy and his dad.

Cygnus class cheerleaders: L-R: Minji (the one that bit Kyle in the beginning of the year, but is now his favorite), Alice, Angela, Hugh from Delphinus Class, some kid, Joyce and Annie, both from Delphinus.

Orion and Pisces classes with parents and myself in the background. We are singing our cheer for the blue team.

Still singing. It was all in Korean, mind you.

Wansong, from Pegasus Class,  pulling in tug-of-war. He likes to sing ABBA and "Video Killed the Radio Star" at school all the time.

Sarah and Linsey getting serious.
